VCC Completes the Holiday Isle Hotel Renovation

Posted in Project Completion

Congratulations to the entire team for completing another challenging and exciting project.  VCC recently completed the Holiday Isle Resort Renovation in Islamorada, FL. The scope included an extensive exterior and interior renovation of the main buildings, lobby, dive shop, pool/bar, hardscape and marina areas. The 145-key facility remained open during the entire construction process as VCC phased the renovation of room interiors and meeting facilities. Even with significant changes to the project, our team successfully kept the operations running smoothly and turned the rooms over to the owner without pushing the schedule.

This is an great example of VCC getting the job done for a new client and expanding our experience in diverse sectors such as hospitality.

Thank you everyone for a job well done!

Lorena Apartments Successfully Completed

Posted in Project Completion

The Lorena Apartment Complex consists of 112 family apartments that are located in the Boyle Heights neighborhood in Los Angeles and includes 63 two-bedroom and 49 three-bedroom homes in two four-story buildings, underground parking, all designed in California contemporary style. The project is located on a hillside with zero lot line construction. A large shoring and soil nail operation was required for the underground parking decks and the apartments were constructed on the elevated deck.

All this was accompished while an existing historic building was moved around the site before placing it in its final location. This was a challenging project due to the logistics and tight scheduling that was required. The all-new complex also includes picnic and barbeque areas, a playground and a recreation center.   The project was completed 3 months ahead of schedule.

VCC Completes New Complex on Moorpark College Campus

Posted in Project Completion

Construction is complete on a new state-of-the-art EATM complex that will open to Moorpark College students for the upcoming spring semester.  The two-story, 13,000-square-foot facility designed by Steven Ehrlich Architects to emulate the wings of a bird, will replace the modular facilities that have been used by students since the beginning of the Exotic Animal Training and Management program in 1973.
The new complex, which fronts the zoo area where more than 200 animals are kept, will have two state-of-the-art classrooms, a veterinary science lab, faculty and staff offices. A 100-seat, multipurpose digital theater in the complex also will support astronomy and other programs at the college.  The facility will expand the current EATM site and will also feature a bookstore and gift shop.

Thanks to the entire VCC team for building another project we can all be proud of.   Great job!

VCC Completes Expansion of UTEP Swimming and Fitness Center

Posted in Project Completion

Our team just recently completed and opened the Swimming and Fitness Center Building at The University of Texas at El Paso Campus. The new building is  87,427 square feet, and houses multiple courts for basketball, volleyball, soccer, an indoor running and walking track and a 40 foot climbing wall. The University of Texas at El Paso President, Dr. Diana Natalico, during the opening celebration said: “The contribution of a facility like this to our campus climate is enormous, it is going to have a huge impact”.

Not only did our team deliver a first class building, but also our team was awarded a 2010 Silver Step (Safety Through Exemplary Performance) Award for its successful safety record during the construction of the new building. The OFPC SILVER STEP Award is given to contractors who are recognized in six consecutive months of providing exceptional safety leadership. To be considered for the award, contractors must meet the rigorous set of criteria every month and conduct daily safety inspections. OFPC initiated the STEP program in 2006 to recognize contractors working on UT Designed System projects who demonstrate an emphasis on the importance of jobsite safety and an injury-free environment.

“Safety on our campus is of the highest importance, and we want to recognize VCC Construction and Bill McHugh the Project Safety Coordinator for his outstanding efforts” said OFPC El Paso Director Edward Gill. Other VCC personnel who were recognized with the award included John Ellis, John Adkins, Aaron Huisman, James Alderfer, Andrew Frith and Juan Garza.

We all know how difficult it is to complete safe quality projects in our current economical environment, especially on a hard bid project, but our team has succeeded in doing so. Congratulations to the entire team on a job well done.

Below is a video of the opening celebration for your viewing pleasure. Thanks, and have a great day!

Dallas Galleria Alleyway and Decel Lane Project is complete!

Posted in Project Completion

This was a very challenging project at the Dallas Galleria Mall.    The Mall portion of the  project consisted of the complete rebuild of the exterior entry including demo of all existing elements, installation of new under drain system, regrading, the addition of  twelve 30′ palm trees, seasonal lighting and new stone pavers.   This work was completed while keeping the Malls main feature entrance open for business.

The new south decel lane added signalization to enhance the traffic flow and cut down on traffic congestion at the south entrance to the Mall from the North Dallas freeway.   This portion of the project consisted of demo, removal of landscaping, relocation of many utilities, concrete paving, and added a signal light.  Barricading and traffic control in this area was extremely challenging due to the limited work hours and high traffic volume.

Not only did our project team do an excellent job on coordination and quality, they also completed the project on time, under budget, and pleased our client.   Please join me in congratulating our entire VCC team on a job well done!
