The greatest construction challenge of Atlantic Station was literally getting above the ground. Unlike most open-air retail/residential projects, which have the bulk of their parking above ground, Atlantic Station is built above a three-level, 38-acre parking garage, with buildings varying in height from three stories to seven. One of the largest parking decks, the Atlantic Station parking deck has 8,000 spaces for the mixed-use project.
VCC essentially built a city above a garage, constructing 30-foot elevated buildings while following the city’s seismic and earthquake load codes.
